For most high school graduates who are moving on to college, the next step can be anxious and daunting. With September around the corner most college-bound students are getting ready for the big move but have no idea what to expect. Many are moving to a new state and have to get acquainted with the new city and new people and new college life. To make your transition easier, here are some steps to follow before heading off to college.

Visit The Campus

The most important step to do before your first day of college is to visit the campus at least once or twice. Get a map and learn the basic buildings such as the Student Union Building, the arts section, the science section, the main library and the registration office. Also note nearby shopping centers and bus stops. If you already have your class schedule, locate the buildings and room numbers so that panic doesn’t strike on the first day.

Find Out Any College Organizations

Go to your colleges website and find if there are any college organizations such as a psychology club, anthropology club or music club. Joining an organization will help you grow your social list and get you more acquainted with college life.

Meet Your Rommate(s)

It’s a good idea to find out who you will be rooming with for the year. If you can’t meet them before school starts, then make an effort to hang out with them and get to know their likes and dislikes. It’s always a good idea to be on best term basis with your roomates as you will be bunking with them for the entire school year. You never know, though, they could become one of your life long friends.

Get College Essentials

Make sure you have the following for college:

A Laptop – Laptop is a priority for homework, research, and essays.

Money For Textbooks – textbooks cost a lot of money so save a chunk for those expensive texts.

Basic School Supplies – binders, notebooks, pens and pencils. You probably won’t be writing a lot but if your professor doesn’t allow laptops for note taking, have a notebook handy.
