It’s almost time for Christmas or Winter holiday and you need to keep your little ones busy. Most parents don’t want to plunk your child in front of the TV during the two week holiday but find it hard to find activities to keep them occupied. What’s important to remember is that you don’t want your child to forget everything he or she learned from September. Here are some activities and resource to use to help your child stay up to date in academics.

School Based Activities Over The Holidays

Activity Books – Whether your child is learning his ABC’s or trigonometry, there are activity books at your local grocery store or office supply store that will help your child keep up to date. If money is an issue, you can always go to your local library to find activity books and then photo copy them or go online to find activity sheets to print up.

Learning Games – There are many games out there that target certain skills like shapes, numbers, reading or phonics. Lucky Ducks is great for the little ones in learning their shapes.

Theme Days – What’s more fun than to have a theme day? Incorporate science, math, reading and gross motor activities all surrounded by a concept. Choose underwater sea adventure or outer space exploration and create snacks, activities, worksheets and games.

Let your child be the teacher – Have your child be the teacher and have them teach you what they are learning or have learned at school. Children really enjoy being an authority and have fun teaching their mom or dad.

So Christmas is around the corner and if you don’t have anything planned with your kids, you may end up pulling out your hair. Don’t despair moms! I have compiled a list of cool activities that you and your kids can do together. Don’t let the stress of planning a perfect Christmas dinner ruin the fun you can have with your little ones.

Activities To Do With Your Kids

Make a Gingerbread house – Kids love to do crafts so why not make a Gingerbread house. You can either pre-make the gingerbread components or buy a kit.

Go to the library – This is a great time to take your kids to the library. With Harry Potter and Twilight huge in popularity, libraries will well stocked with these books. Libraries will also have reading time for your little ones so take the time to see what the library has to offer.

Make Christmas decoration – Time to get your clothespins, pipecleaners, paint and plastic Christmas balls for decorations. Children love the holiday spirit so why not take an afternoon to making Christmas decorations for the Christmas tree, wreath or stair banister.

Plan a Movie Day – Take your children to the video store and have them pick out 8-10 movies that they can watch all day! Make popcorn, candied apples and fizzy punch for them to eat. Treat it like a lazy, all you can eat junk food day. Kids will love this and it will help you get the house chores done.
