1. Don’t shop last minute – It’s important to start buying back to school supplies in July and August. Most sales will occur around this time so take advantage.
2. Shop alone – Believe it or not but your kids have an influence over you. They see the latest and flashiest calculator or pencils and they want it. It’s best, then, to do your back to school shopping when you are alone that way you won’t be influenced.
3. Shop at different stores – You will save quite a few buck if you shop around. Have the list of school supplies on you at all times and when you are out running errands, look for those supplies.
4. Avoid buying school supplies with cartoon or Disney characters on them – They may seem to be the rage right now but in 6 months from now your child will want to get the next best thing so purchase nondescript items that will last the entire school year.
5. Invest in a good backpack – Your child will put the rungs through their backpack so it’s best not to purchase a flimsy on sale ruck sack. Go to the camping section of a store and see if they have some durable and sturdy backpacks.
6. Purchase re-usable lunch storage items – Instead of wasting money on ziploc bags, why not re-use yogurt containers or sour cream containers and help the environment all at the same time? Start saving on store bough packaging so that you can use them to store your children’s lunch.
