Final exams are approaching and if you didn’t do well on your mid-terms, your final chance for getting a good grade is your final exam. For many freshman’s, this may seem daunting and provoke anxiety attacks. One test can account for up to 50% of your grade for many classes. Here are some tips to ace that final exam.
Study Tips
- Attend class and take notes. It’s important you attend every class. Many professors talk about new things that aren’t in the text that they will specifically put on your final exam. Even if it seems unnecessary, still put it in your notes.
- Take two weeks to fully study before the final exam. Re-read chapters, do chapter reviews and make that information second nature to you.
- Use study groups. Having other peers will help with information you may have overlooked.
- Use the web. Many textbooks have a website where you can do extra curricular activities to help with studying. Rely on this tool and use it.
It’s also a great idea to know what kind of exam it is. Is it essay only? Multiple choice? Fill in the blank? A bit of everything? Essay exams may appear to be harder but can actually be easy if you know what to study for. Essay exams questions usually touch on the main theme or a main part of the course or book. Knowing what big themes are throughout the course will help you study. If the test is multiple choice, it’s fair game on what will be covered. Multiple choice tests usually have 100 or more questions and will have a mix of easy and difficult concepts. So prepare ahead!
